No Leftovers!

Our little dog has quite an appetite for her dog food, as small as she is. Of course, putting some “additions” of things we might have leftover from our meal, such as watered-down drippings from a roasting pan, little bits of beef or chicken, those sorts of things, helps in there not being any leftovers. One day, when she was still quite young, we came home from one of our meetings and found that she was sick. We didn’t know what happened to her, until we happened to see the butter dish, now empty, on the floor. Evidence! Here she had gotten up at it somehow, knocked it down on the floor and then had proceeded to devour almost a whole stick of butter. Apparently this was too much for her young digestive system to handle and she got sick on it.This little incident served as a good warning for us though in not having anything like that within her reach. And, we also learned that she can make things within her reach by climbing up on chairs. We haven’t had an episode of her eating butter like that again and since then we’re always careful not to give her too much fat in her diet. However, she still manages to climb up on a chair–nowadays it’s to get at the cats’ food. So far she hasn’t gotten sick from that, fortunately!
